Submission to the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties

On Monday 30 May AP4D made a submission to the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties Inquiry to examine the Protocol Amending the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies.
The submission draws on input from more than 30 fisheries experts consulted by AP4D for the options paper What does it look like for Australia to be an effective partner in combatting illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
The key points of AP4D’s submission are that Australia should:
- deepen and broaden its partnerships
- adopt best practice in its domestic regulations
- continue to invest in capacity-building
- promote innovation in information gathering
