AP4D Symposium | Pacific Regionalism
July 30, 2024
Cooperation among Pacific countries is key to addressing shared challenges and capitalising on shared opportunities. Pacific regionalism is how collective priorities are developed, agreed and delivered – but it is being impacted by rapid geopolitical change. On 29 July 2024 AP4D launched a new paper, ‘What does it look like for Australia to Support Pacific Regionalism’, the result of four months of consultations with more than 50 experts from Australia and across the Pacific. The launch webinar brought together an expert panel to discuss how Australia can play a role not just as a partner or a supporter of Pacific regionalism but as a collaborative voice at the Pacific regionalism table:
- Joel Nilon, former Pacific Regionalism Adviser at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat
- Dr Elizabeth Kopel, Senior Research Fellow at the National Research Institute of Papua New Guinea
- Joanne Wallis, AP4D Advisory Group and Professor of International Security at the University of Adelaide
- Claire Chivell, Director Pacific Climate Change at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Office of the Pacific
