Hugh Piper

Program Lead

Hugh Piper is a public policy professional from Australia, focused on the intersection between international and domestic policy, in particular how Australia can more effectively harness its entire public policy infrastructure in its foreign policy. He has broad experience across public policy, having previously managed research and policy projects at the James Martin Institute for Public Policy on issues including domestic violence and the resilience of schools to natural disasters. For over three years Hugh was a ministerial speechwriter and strategic policy adviser in Australia’s foreign ministry.

Hugh regularly commentates on Australian foreign policy in leading publications and the media. He holds first class honours degrees from the University of Sydney in law and American history and recently completed a Master of Public Policy with the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford.
